Historic Franklin Preservation Association

Franklin’s Historic District is one of Pennsylvania’s architectural gems, with over 20 different styles of architecture; more than 200 significant buildings and one of the most intact Victorian Business Districts in the Commonwealth.  Franklin has examples of every major architectural style from 1830 through 1930.

            Recognizing our architectural heritage, Franklin City Council passed an ordinance on January 15, 1979 to form Franklin’s Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.  In 1988, Historic Franklin Preservation Association was chartered as a nonprofit corporation for the purpose of educating the public to preserve the integrity of Historic Franklin.

            Historic Franklin Preservation Association promotes and preserves the City with the following ongoing efforts:

v     Administration of a Plaque Program dating significant houses and structures.

v     Sale of pewter ornaments and other merchandise that identify historic and architectural landmarks.

v     Holds monthly public meetings featuring preservation-related programming.

v     Sponsors an Essay and Photo Competition for local high school students.

v     Observes National Preservation Week each May.

v     Participation in local festivals.

            Historic Franklin Preservation Association is governed by a board of 15 Directors.  Monthly meetings are held September through May.  The dates and programs for each meeting are announced in the local newspaper and all meetings are open to the public.

            Historic Franklin Preservation Association is a member of the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Preservation Pennsylvania, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
